UNDERGROUND PLANNING AND INNOVATION: THIS WAS OUR PARTICIPATION IN SIMIN 2025

The XXIV edition of the Mining Engineering Symposium (SIMIN 2025), held from 6 to 8 October at the Hotel Best Western Premier Marina Las Condes, once again confirmed why it has become one of the unmissable technical forums for Chilean mining. Over three days, students, executives, academics and representatives of the mining institutional framework discussed critical minerals, mining 4.0, sustainability and new forms of coordination within the ecosystem.

Within that framework was the presentation by Víctor Mohana, project engineer at the boutique consultancy REDCO Mining Consultants, who spoke about the current challenges of underground planning and the opportunities opened up by the incorporation of integrated approaches and advanced technologies in mine design.

SIMIN 2025 was not just a succession of talks. The presence of the Minister of Mining, Aurora Williams, at the opening session, the staging of more than fifty technical presentations, thematic panels on green mining and non-traditional mining, an unprecedented business round and a “Women and Mining” discussion panel with high female participation, ultimately reinforced the character of the gathering as a space where education, industry and public policy intersect.

In that context, Mohana’s talk connected with one of the guiding threads of the symposium: the need for technological innovation not to remain in rhetoric, but to translate into concrete methodologies for designing and operating more efficient, safe and sustainable mines. The firm’s participation in this type of event fits precisely into that logic: placing applied engineering at the center of the conversation and contributing, from the experience of real projects, to the technical discussion being driven by the new generations of mining engineers.
