Engineering Tools

We turn mining engineering expertise into our own digital solutions, developing simulation and analysis software that optimizes strategic and operational decisions across the entire mining value chain.

SIMPLAN
Discrete and stochastic simulator for mine plans

Simulation software developed by REDCO that makes it possible to evaluate strategic plans, generate alternative plans and/or assess future value. It works by deflecting a reference plan based on the capacities of the different unit operations in the value chain and the priority given to meeting a specific production target.

The results detail the operational extraction and production plan (deterministic and stochastic) at the level of mine extraction, mine movement, concentrate, production, among others, and its subsequent detailed economic valuation period by period.

SIMPLAN’S VALUE CREATION IS LINKED TO ITS ABILITY TO:

  • Validate the consistency of an extraction and production plan, assessing the interaction of the volumetric plan with operational parameters and the performance of mining equipment, processes, among others,
  • Project the future condition of an extraction and production plan,
  • Estimate the achievement and the probability of achievement of an extraction and production plan,
  • Identify bottlenecks in an extraction and production plan,
  • Assess sensitivities to a reference extraction and production plan.
  • Economically evaluate an extraction and production plan.

SIMPREP
Simulator for mine development and construction tasks

Simulation software developed by REDCO that generates a shift-by-shift operating plan for mine development and construction activities, prioritizing the achievement of a given production target.

The results detail the hour-by-hour sequence of activities, together with each of the resources used.

VALUE CREATION IS MAINLY DRIVEN BY

  • Savings in planning time (engineering man-hours).
  • Reduces or eliminates the errors generated when using multiple Excel spreadsheets.
  • Enables the generation of alternative plans in the event of unforeseen operational events, such as equipment and infrastructure downtime, in order to mitigate the impact (catch-up). With reaction times ranging from 5 to 30 minutes.
  • Assess changes in the operating philosophy or standard in order to estimate their impact.

REDFOOT
Optimal Footprint Estimation for Underground Operations

The open pit to underground transition assessment tool allows the transition to be evaluated on the basis of technical and economic parameters, parameterizing both the open pit and the underground mine in strata. For this purpose, a level selection subroutine is available that finds the optimal level of the underground mine, together with its tonnage, grade, value and a preliminary production schedule, based on the block model of the case study, which is subsequently used to stratify the underground option.

Within the tool, up to 20 parameters can be modified to adjust the simulation to the reality of each operation.

These parameters include: particle size distribution curves, drawbell design, the number of rocks per pulse, column tonnage, shape factor, average axis length, among others.

In addition, REDFOOT allows multiple replications to be run in order to obtain a distribution of hang-ups and oversize, making it possible to carry out risk analysis on these variables.

REDFRAG
Simulator for estimating hang-ups and oversize at drawpoints

Tool developed by REDCO and validated with the support of CODELCO that makes it possible to estimate the frequency of hang-ups and oversize at drawpoints.

Within the tool, up to 20 parameters can be modified to adjust the simulation to the reality of each operation.

These parameters include: particle size distribution curves, drawbell design, the number of rocks per pulse, column tonnage, shape factor, average axis length, among others.

In addition, REDFRAG allows multiple replications to be run in order to obtain a distribution of hang-ups and oversize, making it possible to carry out risk analysis on these variables.
