PRESENT AT THE 74TH ANNUAL CONVENTION OF THE INSTITUTO DE INGENIEROS EN MINAS DE CHILE (IIMCH)

Under the theme “Chilean mining: evolution, challenges and sustainable future”, the 74th Annual Convention of the Instituto de Ingenieros de Minas de Chile (IIMCh) took place, one of the most relevant technical gatherings in the country. The event, held from October 12 to 16 at the Hotel Antofagasta, brought together representatives of industry, academia and the public sector around the main challenges of modern mining.

The boutique mining engineering consultancy was represented by Enrique Rubio (Chief Executive Officer), Rodrigo Valdés (Business Development Manager) and Víctor Mohana (Project Engineer), who took part in the event’s technical program with a presentation focused on the Sublevel Caving method.

During his presentation, Mohana addressed the main operational advantages and design challenges of SLC, highlighting its applicability in copper and massive mineral projects, as well as the role of geomechanical modeling and 3D simulation in the optimization of sequences, dilution and productivity. The analysis emphasized the importance of integrating sustainability, safety and economic efficiency criteria into the design of modern underground mines, in line with the standards promoted by the IIMCh.

The gathering also included panels dedicated to transformative technologies, energy transition, climate change, safety culture, female inclusion and the training of young talent, reaffirming the need for more resilient and innovative mining. For Enrique Rubio, taking part in this convention is an opportunity to link knowledge with the strategic projection of the mining business, since these are essential for sharing experiences, contrasting visions and continuing to contribute to a Chilean mining industry that combines innovation, sustainability and technical excellence.
